Goals & Giving

Goals and Giving is the official charitable organization of the Detroit Ignition. As a 501(c)(3) corporation, Goals and Giving is a separate entity from the Ignition, but benefits from Ignition fundraising programs such as jersey auctions, jersey raffles and other special events.

The mission of Goals and Giving is to provide opportunities through soccer for underpriveleged children. Specifically, Goals and Giving provides tickets to Detroit Ignition home games and scholarships to Detroit Ignition Summer Camps to children who otherwise would not be exposed to the positive influences associated with the sport of soccer, and in broader terms, atheletics.

School Assembly Program

The Detroit Ignition school assembly program is an ineteractive program that features Ignition players teaching children positive life skills in metro Detroit schools. Topics include setting goals, responsible decision making and living a healthy lifestyle.

The Ignition performed 65 school assemblies in the 2007-08 school year, reaching roughly 16,000 children across Southeastern Michigan (33 in Wayne County, 12 in Livingston County (Citizen's Insurance exclusive), 9 in Washtenaw County, 9 in Macomb County, 1 in Marquette County and 1 in Ohio.

School participating in the assembly program complete an evaluation survey and give additional feedback to our organization.

Camp Scholarship Opportunities

The Ignition holds an annual camp program for youth soccer players taught by Detroit Ignition players in various locations throughout Southeastern Michigan. Over 1,400 children attended Ignition camps in the summer of 2008.

Contributions to Goals & Giving allow the Ignition to offer camp scholarships to children in low-income families.

Community Outreach

Goals & Giving regularly reaches out to other non-profit organizations throughout the year. During the ignition season, Goals & Giving donates tickets to youth-focused non-profits so the children they work with can enjoy a game live and in person.

The organization also provides merchandise, autographed items and player appearances to aid local charitable organizations in their fundraising efforts.

Goals & Giving has worked with companies such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children's Home of Detroit, Kids Fighting Cancer, Kids Kicking Cancer, Judson Center, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Little People of America, Metro Detroit Children's Home, Mike Furrey Foundation and Special Olympics, among others
